Woah, it has been forever since I have visited my Xanga, so long in fact i almost wrote facebook instead of xanga... what is sad is that it took insomnia to get me here. After fighting against in unsleeping for a few hours i decided to embrace this problem called insomnia, however i do believe i belong on the other side of the world, say Australia or New Zealand then my sleeping habits would be normal.
I can not sleep and there is no reason for it. My heater is whistling worse than a teapot, otherwise the only noise in my room is the buzz of the light bulb. I've been playing with that word, Normal, for some time this evening, even finding myself pondering that six letter phrase. Normal : conforming with or constituting a norm or standard or level or type or social norm; not abnormal. That simple definition compiles the meaning of the word normal into a websters dictionary viewpoint, seems simple none-the-less we still strive to achieve and avoid this status with all our hearts.
The aspect that triggers my attention is the norm. A norm is a standard or a model that things are based off of, in fact the study of sociology is based off of a lot of norms... But norms can change, so normal in turn can change as well, so if you finally achieve normal, is it a normal of the past, a normal of now, or a normal of the future. Can anyone achieve normal, the status that is ever changing and ever present in their society? Yes, no? The other side of that coin is also present, abnormal, different and strange, they can all fall under the classification of normal in a different society, or enough people who are abnormal, different, or strange can become their own society making themselves normal... Its a challenging thing to contemplate, even in the early hours of morning, when most of the best thinking is done ~.^

Now if you have read this far, it means that something I have said has caught your eye, or perhaps you have some time to spare, either way, youve read this, now my question for you is are you  normal? why or why not? and do you strive to be normal?

There are many things that make us normal, we can simply be human, be a person, an american, a student, or anything that we can think of, in some way shape or form everyone is normal. On that same hand, everyone is abnormal. Or are we? Society has challenged the thought processes of the world, a global society while still not completed is beginning to form, are we ready for that? With the drugs that our doctors and psychologists dole out we can achieve chemical balances and our bodies can be regulated in such a way that every one fits the mold that is designed.
So how do i get on the committee, at the hospitals and the gatherings of the great minds of the world to help determine what this normal is,  or when do we get to vote saying that we like the randomness in our personalities or the differences in our thought processes, Yeah sure i may be sleep deprived or challenged, but i wouldn't give up my freedom of thoughts for the world.
In the book 1984 a world of complete totalitarianism is depicted, a place where peoples thoughts are monitored and  you lack even the ability to control  your desires. I would not function well in this society and many people were shocked by the concepts that the book depicted. This to me says that the world is not ready to be blindly normal, and function by societies norms, but instead we bask in our ability to be different and chose our own paths.
Maybe instead of trying to be normal or trying to define ourselves we should enjoy what we are, who we are, and what we will be while we are still free to make these choices before the world as we know it takes our science and our intelligence against us more than it already has.
